Through public comment, interviews with customers, potential customers and industry experts we set out to learn more about the current state of credentialing and its challenges, barriers and innovations. We also issued a survey, participated in the National Credentialing Forum and attended the National Association Medical Staff Services Education Conference to ensure these program evolutions would bring benefits to your organization.
Program Evolution Highlights:
• Single Credentialing program. We consolidated Credentialing Accreditation and CVO Certification into a single program, with options for individual Certifications (e.g., State Licensing Certification) or an overall Accreditation. NCQA recognizes the opportunity for Certification status to reflect to functions performed.
• NCQA will be updating CVO Certification (CVO) starting with the 2025 calendar year and under the new product name (CR/PN) from the current 2-year to a 3-year certification with a 3-year look back period.
• Shorter Verification Timeframes. The shortened timeframe will enable organizations to access and work with more current data. More current data is key for organization’s risk mitigation, patient protections and allows for accelerated timeframes for assembling credentials, leading to shorter network enrollment periods.
• Credentialing Accreditation Interim Survey option. We will be introducing a new Interim Survey option, which is a review of an organization’s policies and procedures and gives organizations a glidepath to full Accreditation within 18 months. Increasing the number of organizations that align with NCQA standards helps reduce burden across the delivery system and mitigate risk.
