Medical Staff Professionals are the "Gatekeepers" of patient safety. Having an organized, detailed, and consistent process for the vetting of healthcare practitioners is vital to any organization's success. This introductory session provides a comprehensive overview of the essential concepts and processes involved in healthcare credentialing. Designed for professionals new to the field or those seeking a refresher on the foundations of credentialing. Participants will leave with a solid foundation so that they can contribute effectively to their organization's credentialing practices.
Objectives:
1. Define Core Credentialing Concepts: Participants will be able to explain fundamental credentialing terms and processes, including primary source verification, privileging, and accreditation standards.
2. Outline the Credentialing Workflow: Participants will understand the key steps in the credentialing lifecycle, from application submission and verification through approval and ongoing monitoring.
3. Recognize the Importance of Compliance and Accuracy: Participants will identify the impact of accurate credentialing on patient safety, regulatory compliance, and organizational efficiency, while learning how to avoid common errors in the credentialing process.
The role of the MSP has evolved dramatically over the past decade. The MSP has grown from the job title of secretary and coordinator to that of vice president and operations. This session will examine barriers to achieving success including Tall Poppy Syndrome, The Jonah Complex, and Imposter Syndrome. We will explore alternative perspectives on success that challenge notions of perfectionism and self-doubt, encouraging individuals to redefine their achievements and celebrate their success!
Objectives:
Tiffany Long is a seasoned medical staff services professional with more than twenty-five years of experience and a strong focus on innovation, efficiency, and technology-driven solutions. Much of her career has centered on leading Credentials Verification Organizations (CVOs), where she has consistently championed ways to streamline credentialing and reduce redundancy across the healthcare ecosystem.
Her background spans acute-care hospitals, telemedicine, and staffing, giving her a broad perspective on the challenges providers and organizations face. Tiffany is recognized for building high-performing teams and implementing scalable solutions that align credentialing, licensing, and provider enrollment functions.
An active leader within the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS), Tiffany serves as an Instructor, Mentor, and Fellow of Medical Staff Services Professionals (FMSP) and has previously held the role of Director at Large on the NAMSS Board. She is also a frequent speaker at NAMSS and state association conferences, sharing her expertise on credentialing and related industry topics.
