Medical Credentialing - Understanding the DEA Registration Process

Medical professionals that handle controlled substances are subject to strict regulation by both state and federal authorities. It's crucial for medical and credentialing services professionals to understand their pivotal role in ensuring compliance. Attendees will gain a better understanding of the role the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Diversion Control Division plays in overseeing controlled substance transactions as well as learn practical guidance on navigating the DEA registration process.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Summarize the basic elements of the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 as it applies to DEA Registrations.
  2. Describe the factors taken into consideration when placing a controlled substance into a respective schedule.
  3. Explain how the registration provisions of the Controlled Substances Act fit into the Closed System of Distribution
  4. Give examples of how practitioners can satisfy the new training requirement under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023.
  5. Summarize how to conduct a primary source registration verification of a DEA registrant in the DEA’s CSA Registration.
