Organizational Readiness: Integrating ITP's

Course Description

As states across the country implement alternative licensure pathways for internationally trained physicians (ITPs), Medical Staff Professionals (MSPs) are increasingly responsible for navigating the credentialing, privileging, enrollment, and compliance challenges associated with these new practice models. This session provides a practical roadmap for assessing organizational readiness and safely integrating ITPs into healthcare organizations. Drawing on emerging regulatory frameworks, credentialing best practices, and real-world operational considerations, participants will explore the unique challenges associated with international education verification, competency assessment, supervision requirements, privileging decisions, payer enrollment, and ongoing performance evaluation.

Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the evolving licensure landscape, identify potential risks and compliance concerns, and learn strategies to develop defensible credentialing and privileging processes that support patient safety, regulatory compliance, and workforce development.

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Explain the implications for medical staff services professionals and healthcare organizations for ITPs.
2. Apply credentialing best practices to the review and verification of ITPs by identifying      primary source verification methods.
3. Evaluate privileging and competency assessment processes for ITPs.
4. Assess organization risks associated with operational, legal, and compliance for ITP onboarding  and review strategies to address credentialing, billing, enrollment, and   supervision challenges. 
5. Examine the impact of payer enrollment and reimbursement requirements on ITP practices. 
6. Develop a readiness plan that incorporates policy updates, stakeholder engagement, payer considerations, ongoing evaluation, and documentation practices necessary for successful ITP integration.
